This year’s recipient for the scholarship is Kellie Sourwine. Kellie was chosen for her hard work and dedication to herself and to her community. Throughout her high school career, she has excelled in multiple areas. Starting in 2022 she enrolled in a dual enrollment through JCC. For the past two years, she has been taking college courses on top of her high school work. She has achieved the deans list with honors. After her time at JCC, she has been accepted to SUNY Potsdam to pursue a degree in early childhood education. With the passion of early childhood education, she became apart of LCS’s Buddy Program. A high school student is assigned an elementary student that is need, needs vary. Since she was junior she was assigned two different buddies in Pre-k. She states that the buddy program and working hand and hand with the teachers truly solidified her passion and love for early childhood education. She was an active athlete playing three sport, basketball, soccer and softball while also focusing on her studies. Along with playing those sports, she was also in basketball and soccer club. She was active in the schools drama club and was apart of multiple shows and was also the treasurer of the club. She was apart of Sources of Strength, a club created at LCS. A special club that brings people together and try to make a positive impact on their communities along with themselves. Heavy focus on mental health and the importance of creating a healthy environment for everyone, but also allows kids to find their true selves. She been an active member of the student council, National honor society and she was also her class treasurer every year in high school. Outside of school, she participated with the Salvation Army and on Thanksgiving would help prepare and hand out dinners to those in need. She also was involved with the Lutheran Church BBQ held in August. She also worked hard during the summer working at multiple different places. Kellie is a hard worker and puts passion into everything she does. She is creative, charismatic and adventurous. Kellie is excited to step out of her comfort zone and pursue her next challenge.
